Dear Educators,
Heritage Pavilion Stage is expanding to five productions this coming season!
We are preparing to launch an ambitious seventh season of innovative and curriculum-linked historical and current events plays. Some will be toured, as is our tradition, but we also are venturing into new production formats and venues.
October 9-11 and October 16-18, 2007
The World Premiere of Figure of Peace, a play written by Heritage
Pavilion Stage founder and award-winning playwright Ed Schroeter,
and directed by Heritage Pavilion Stage's Artistic Director Phil Oakley,
will be produced in collaboration with the Art Gallery of
Peterborough. The open-air dramatic presentation in front of the
War Memorial at Confederation Park will be followed by a choice of
40-minute workshops: directing & producing (Phil Oakley & HPS
producers); visual arts Art Gallery staff); acting (cast). The play and
workshops are appropriate or students in grades 4 to 10.
October-December 2007
Heritage Pavilion Stage will sponsor an eight-week training
workshop for students ages 9-14 in October through December 2007.The workshop will result in the production and performance of a student-developed stage version of Dylan Thomas’ famous poem – “A Child’s Christmas in Wales”. Phil Oakley, well-known local actor, director, and Artistic Director of Heritage Pavilion Stage, will head the program.
The training will provide students with opportunities to see how a play is adapted from other material, produced and performed. Students will take part in the writing, technical production, acting and directing.
February 1-8, 2008
And Freedom for All
..a story of the Underground Railroad
Directed by Phil Oakley
And Freedom for All is based on the true story of the abolitionist William King who
arrives in 1834 to take up his teaching position on a Louisiana plantation, and who quickly becomes involved in the fight against slavery..and his campaign to found a haven in the Ontario community of South Buxton for escaped slaves.
We have been invited by St Andrews Church (the church built by
King) in South Buxton to perform the play to celebrate their 150th
anniversary. This tour will include four
performances in the church as well one week of school productions
in the Lambton Kent & St Clair Catholic district school boards, to
celebrate Black History Month.
An exciting opportunity to bring history to life!
February 11-15, 2008

Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes-Durham-York Region schools
for one week after our return from the Buxton production.
